Research has shown that while sleeping, the brain is creating the ways for learning and memory. Babies have connections in the brain two times more than adults.

Children are said to take 50% of their sleeping time in REM sleep, whereas in adults only take 5% on their REM sleep. At birth, the baby’s body completely lacks the brain. Due to this the cells have to learn on how to communicate with one another.

Since the baby was learning much during their sleep, by three years their brain connections are twice that of an adult.

Learn of how the REM sleep happens:

The first three steps are considered as the REM sleep or the rapid eye movement.

The first step is when the eyes and the body movements get to slow down.

At the second step, the eye stops their movement and the brain waves also slow down.

During step three, the brain waves are too slow with lesser rapid waves

The final stage has the slowest waves of the brain with fewer interruptions.

At stage three and four, it is when the brain is busiest; creating the dreams, the rapid eye movements and the body is paralyzed so as not to get harmed.

Learning occurs in the deep REM sleep. During the REM sleep, the brain takes care of the information learnt during the day by storing them appropriately. This is the same as is done while storing information in the computer. Research has shown that as the memories are being stored in the brain, the old memories are revisited just as it is on a computer. This is the reason why dreams are a mixture of the old memories and the recent occurrences.

Research has also proved that new tasks are recalled with accuracy when one has a full night sleep. Those who spend less than six hours sleeping did perform poorly than those who had six hours of sleep. But in cases of those who had eight hours of sleep had improved learning than the six hour sleep candidates.

One should learn how to solve the problems and creativity at sleep time. It is evident that during sleep, the brain is capable of coming up with new ideas and ways that are creative to solve disturbing issues. Those that sleep before solving a problem are discovered to come up with brilliant ideas than those who do not do so.

For one to stay in touch with their development, learning and build on their creativity, one should have an eight hour sleep for the deep REM sleep.
